Alana has completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) at the University of Newcastle, where she is also currently completing a Master of Clinical Psychology. She previously completed a Diploma of Mental Health through TAFE NSW. Prior to her clinical work, Alana worked for 5 years as a mental health support worker, and felt fortunate to work with clients with varying diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and personality disorders. She has also worked for the University of Newcastle tutoring undergraduate psychology students.
Alana strives to provide therapy that is guided by the best evidence, whilst ensuring she takes a person centred, holistic approach. She encourages and empowers clients to drive their own choices and changes, believing that the clients are the experts of their own lives who sometimes need a helping hand. Alana is passionate about supporting people in reaching their full potential and leading happier, healthier lives.
Her clinical work has mostly centred around anxiety, depression, post-trauma stress, parenting and attachment issues. Alana enjoys working with a range of presentations and client groups across the lifespan. Additionally, Alana enjoys working with people who are sexually and gender diverse, as well as those from different cultural backgrounds including clients who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
Alana mostly uses Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Family Systems Therapy. Alana prides herself on being a personable and empathetic person, and feels very fortunate that she now transfers these personal qualities into a professional setting.
